According to The Montreal Gazette, Penguin Canada won the  rights to Ilustrado. Miguel Syjuco’s debut novel, which recently won the second annual Man Asian Literary Prize, will be published in early 2010. The publisher has acquired Canadian rights to the book for its new literary imprint, Hamish Hamilton Canada, in what it described as a “heated auction.” Ilustrado, which begins as a murder mystery, uses a variety of narrative styles to tell a family saga charting 150 years of Philippine history. Syjuco, who works as a copy editor at The Gazette, is completing his Ph.D. in English literature for the University of Adelaide. He has published poetry, short fiction and features.  ***Source: The Gazette (Montreal) 2008***
